Location: BELLEVUE, WA
Project Type: New Construction
Owner: Bellevue College
Architect: LMN Architects
Category: Higher Education
The construction project involved building a cutting-edge health sciences facility from the ground up at Bellevue College. The facility encompasses nursing labs, a five-room medical simulation lab, two radiology labs with observation and control rooms, labs for radiation therapy, as well as classrooms and administrative offices. The three-story concrete structure was constructed on a downward-sloping site and is equipped with two elevators and three sets of stairs. Notably, the building houses a unique Neurodiagnostic Technology Research Lab, the only one of its kind in the region.
Designed and constructed in accordance with LEED Gold standards, the Health Science Building features environmentally conscious elements such as a vegetation-covered living roof, the utilization of recycled building materials, multiple rain capture basins, and geothermal heating.
To address logistical challenges, a detailed plan was developed in collaboration with college administrators, outlining specific areas for work. Overcoming obstacles like narrow roads around the college, the project team worked closely with the college and the City of Bellevue to optimize the truck route for efficient construction operations.
